Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures.
Amongst all the cosmetic procedures, patients with breast augmentation have one of the highest
satisfaction rates. Every woman has her own reason for making such decision. Some have lost
breast tissue and size after pregnancy or breast feeding, and just want back the volume they
once had. Others just simply felt dissatisfied with their size and shape.Saggy or droopy
breasts can be lifted either with an implant or by simply raising the breast without
enlargement. Uneven or poorly shaped breasts can also be corrected with some of the advanced
breast lifting techniques. There are generally two basic types of implants, silicone gel and
saline filled. Silicone gel implants are filled with liquid silicone. If you are interested in
having silicone gel implants, be sure to ask if you are eligible to participate in one of the
approved protocols. So far there have been numerous studies demonstrating no link between
silicone gel implants and any type of disease. Saline filled implants consist of an outer
shell of silicone that is filled with saline, or salt water. Most breast implants used for
breast augmentation belong to this category. On top of that, there is a latest type of saline
implant called a "high profile" saline implant. It is designed to produce better breast
projection and volume, because more of its volume is utilized in establishing projection
rather than increasing the width of the implant. Please consult your plastic surgeon for more
information regarding which type of implant might be suitable for your individual needs.
Breast augmentation is carried out as an outpatient procedure. After the procedures, you will
rest in the recovery room for approximately one hour, after which you will be able to return
home with your friend or family member.
You should plan to take it easy following your
breast surgery. No strenuous activities, heavy lifting, aerobic exercises, swimming, contact
sports, tennis, or golf should be involved for the first few weeks. As your plastic surgeon
monitors your recovery progress, he or she will advise you when it is safe to resume these
activities.
